Meyer Zoysia

Meyer Zoysia Sod for Sale in Atlanta, GA

Meyer Zoysia (Z-52) is a proven, time-tested variety known for its cold tolerance, dense growth, and fine-to-medium blade texture. Often called the "original hybrid Zoysia," Meyer offers a beautiful green lawn with good resilience and moderate maintenance requirements — making it a reliable choice for homeowners across Georgia.

At Atlanta Sod Supply, we deliver fresh-cut Meyer Zoysia sod throughout Metro Atlanta and the Piedmont region. Whether you’re replacing an existing lawn or installing new turf, Meyer offers strength, stability, and year-round appeal in Georgia’s warm, yet often unpredictable, climate.

Why Choose Meyer Zoysia Grass?

  • Meyer Zoysia has been a favorite across the South for decades, prized for its thick, weed-resistant turf and ability to tolerate colder winters better than many other warm-season grasses. Its fine-to-medium texture provides a lush, soft feel underfoot while holding up to moderate traffic.

  • With proper care, Meyer Zoysia forms a beautiful, dense carpet that performs well in sunny and lightly shaded areas, making it ideal for residential lawns and upscale landscapes.

Meyer Zoysia Maintenance & Care Guide

Meyer Zoysia offers a great balance of performance and beauty with relatively low upkeep. While it doesn’t spread as aggressively as newer varieties, it creates a thick, weed-resistant lawn when properly maintained.

Light & Growing Conditions

  • Performs best in full sun but tolerates light to moderate shade

  • Needs at least 5–6 hours of sun daily for optimal growth

  • Grows well in well-drained, fertile soils (pH 6.0–6.5 preferred)

  • Tolerates cooler winters better than most warm-season grasses

  • Slower to establish than some Zoysia types, but very stable once rooted

Watering

  • Water immediately after installation to encourage rooting

  • Maintain consistent moisture during the first 2–3 weeks

  • After establishment, water once per week (1 inch total, including rainfall)

  • Avoid overwatering — Meyer performs best with deep, infrequent watering

  • Tolerates dry spells but prefers occasional supplemental irrigation in summer

Mowing

  • Begin mowing once grass reaches 2.5 inches

  • Maintain between 1.0" to 2.0" for best appearance

  • Mow every 10–14 days during peak season

  • Use a sharp blade; reel or rotary mower both work well

  • Occasional dethatching (once per season) may be needed due to slower vertical growth
